Review: The Honest Truth about Dishonesty - Dan Ariely

The Honest Truth About Dishonesty: How We Lie to Everyone - Especially OurselvesThe Honest Truth About Dishonesty: How We Lie to Everyone - Especially Ourselves by Dan Ariely
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Only the small portion of people will stay honest all the time while most of us lie (?). Based on experiments, we are constantly going back and forth between moral code and rational calculation.

Gladly it was never plenty enough. We lied just slightly because we assume it would never hurt anyone, while in fact if all of us did it, will deliver a nasty one. We lied when tired to face the same question all the time. We also lied smoothly when we thought it's for the greater good, for the welfare causes, and for comforting others. The so-called white lies.

We even lied to ourselves. We entertain our thought to the place we want to stick with, to escape from fact and reality.

This book covers a variety of creative experiments in figuring out how we lie. Although it seems complicated, the explanation is easy to understand.

A must-read book if you want to be a con or just want to avoid one.

Review: Predictably Irrational - Dan Ariely

Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our DecisionsPredictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions by Dan Ariely
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

hmmm buku menarik. Di akhir tiap chapter selalu membuat senyum-senyum sendiri dan merenung, "apa iya? kayaknya iya deh bener..." hahaha

Well, I should admit that all the chapters are so fascinating. It's hard to pick one chapter to be my most favorite, all of them are well explained and easy to understand.

Soon after I read this book, I know why we procrastinate, why some of us tend to be dishonest and cheat on to something, especially in something indirectly related to money although we could still consider it as corruption.

I know why we tend to compare in almost anything: in love, in salary, and maybe some of us are now unconsciously comparing my review with others that just because we can't help it ! LOL.

Thanks to Dan Ariely, now I see things differently, especially for discount and free things ! haha will definitely read his next and other books similar to this one!
